Billhop is a Swedish headquartered, international payment platform enabling card-based bill payments, backed by funds including Element Ventures. The business is a regulated Payment Institute with a license to operate across the EEA and Switzerland. Customers can instantly pay any invoice by card, regardless if the supplier accepts cards and without any onboarding of the supplier required. There are two primary customer segments – SME’s and Corporates.
Search Background
Billhop’s customer base spans SME, to Enterprise, and had reached a point of complexity where there was the need for a Chief Commercial Officer to spearhead the commercial growth of the business across the different customer groups. The ideal candidate needed experience in selling into a variety of customer types and user audiences, with an appreciation of the different approaches to optimally grow each.
Requirements
Core to the role was ownership of the commercial growth of the business, developing and owning go-to-market strategy through to execution. Data-driven, analytical, with a clear appreciation for an integrated commercial continuum and a clear business mind for product considerations and how they will impact revenue. They needed to understand how to scale a commercial function post Series A investment, including team structure and methodologies.
Result
Erevena conducted a search across the European market, looking at payments, fintech, and software businesses with an SME/Enterprise offering within Financial Services. During this process, we identified and introduced Tashi Gauffin to Billhop. Tashi has both relevant and demonstrable experience in a similar growth journey from his time with Tink.
Sebastian Andreescu
CEO
Our experience from working with the team at Erevena has been superior compared to other executive search services that we’ve engaged with in the past. There are many aspects that distinguishes them from their peers but what stood out the most for us was their method and approach to ensuring that we find the right person for this specific point in our company journey. A lot of executive search services can find you qualified individuals but fewer than what you would expect understand the need for ensuring that a candidate is stage appropriate and a good cultural fit – both equally crucial elements in scale-up for a hire to be successful. With Tashi we got an experienced commercial leader that has a proven track record of scaling fintech’s and that understands the mix between strategic and hands-on approach required by a CCO in a company that is on an aggressive growth journey.
