Proemion is a global technology company providing hardware-enabled software solutions that connect mobile machines, humans, the cloud, and each other. Founded in 1987 in Fulda, Germany and family-owned, Proemion develops proprietary telematics control units and accompanying cloud-based software. These solutions help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and mixed-fleet companies in construction, agriculture, logistics, and natural resources operate machinery more efficiently through remote diagnostics and analytics. In October 2022, Proemion announced a €33.5m growth investment from Battery Ventures.

Search Background

Since welcoming Battery Ventures on board as an investor, Proemion recognised the need to strengthen the go-to-market (GTM) leadership in the business for the next stage of growth. To enable this, the Proemion team were looking for a Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) to architect and execute a robust revenue strategy. They needed someone to bring passion and experience to the table, striking a balance between strategic vision and tactical implementation, collaborating closely with the CEO to devise a GTM strategy whilst also working closely with the team as it scaled rapidly and internationally.

Requirements

Proemion was seeking an experienced revenue leader to join the senior leadership team and report to the CEO. The ideal candidate would have a strong track record in scaling high-growth SaaS companies. Experience building world-class revenue functions in the B2B enterprise software space was paramount as the CRO would be responsible for shaping the medium- to long-term sales and marketing strategies.

The ideal candidate would have deep knowledge of the DACH market but would also bring broader EMEA / global leadership credentials. Experience selling complex solutions in industrial sectors was important, particularly in multi-modal environments where both hardware and software were significant revenue generators.

Result

After a successful search, Proemion hired Marco Hertz as Chief Revenue Officer. Marco brings over 25 years of enterprise sales leadership experience, most recently as SVP Sales EMEA at Stibo Systems, where he has been responsible for building out a team of over 200, and has successfully doubled revenue growth in the region, significantly increasing EMEA contribution to global revenues. He had previously been responsible for leading the DACH and German regions at SAP Concur and QlikTech, which gave him a strong grounding in enterprise SaaS sales.

Marco brings deep expertise selling into manufacturing and other relevant verticals and has also built and led teams across EMEA and the US. Beyond his experience, Marco was a strong cultural fit with both the Proemion leadership team and Battery Ventures. We look forward to seeing the impact he will have as Proemion’s new CRO.
