Company
Griffin is an API-first, full-stack Banking as a Service provider that lets companies focus on building financial services products, instead of managing back-end infrastructure and compliance operations. It was founded in 2017 by David Jarvis and Allen Rohner who have more than a decade of experience founding and operating infrastructure companies in Silicon Valley. To date, they have raised money from prominent investors including EQT Ventures, Seedcamp, Tribe Capital, as well as Paul Forster (the founder of Indeed.com) and Charlie Delingpole (the founder of ComplyAdvantage and MarketFinance).
Search Background
Following their fundraise from EQT Ventures, Griffin was keen to bring in a VP of Marketing to support the company in defining product market fit, developing their marketing and communications strategy from scratch, increasing their visibility with various audiences, and growing their customer base. The team wanted to invest early in the right marketing leadership to ensure a strategic approach to a complex market.
Requirements
Griffin was looking for a hands-on marketing leader; someone who could operate in a lean environment with minimal budget and resources, but also with a track record of successfully scaling marketing functions in high-growth and rapidly evolving businesses. They needed someone who had product marketing expertise, but who could also develop and elevate Griffin’s brand as a sophisticated, tech-first bank. Financial services experience was not essential, but they did require somebody who had proven their ability to market complex technology in a fast-paced environment.
Result
After an extensive search across both Europe and the US, Laura Hauser was successfully placed in the role. Laura joined Griffin from Adaptavist, where she spent over four years building the marketing team from zero to 45, helped scale revenue by 15x, facilitated a complex rebrand, and launched several new products and solutions. She initially joined Adaptavist as the Head of Product Marketing before being promoted to Head of Marketing, an executive role. Her earlier career was based out of San Francisco, and she previously worked for Silicon Valley tech companies such as Atlassian, AdRoll, and WibiData.
