In the last (and hottest) weekend of June, a team of 20 from Erevena successfully completed the Jurassic Coast challenge, a 63km hike which took us across beaches, up some seemingly never ending hills, and along some of the most beautiful, rugged and challenging coastline in England. Surviving the 30 degree heat, the team climbed over 1,500 vertical meters in total from Poole to Weymouth to raise funds for an incredible charity – Beam.
Beam are a UK crowdfunding platform for the homeless, helping their members raise the funds required for professional training to suit their individual talents and experience, and gain long-term employment in the process. Hailed as “one of the most promising digital innovations in homelessness of recent years”, it works by taking on members recommended by partner homeless charities, helping them decide what training to pursue, setting up their online crowdfunding on the Beam website, and paying fees directly to training organisations once individual campaigns reach their targets.
The blisters, seized limbs, sunburn and exhaustion were all made worth it by your generous donations of £4,000 and counting. Your support is hugely appreciated by us and those supported by Beam, and there is still time to help us reach our target by donating on our fundraising page.
